The main zipper does not work after 4 years and it is not repairable according to the Tumi service center. I was quite surprised to know that zipper is not considered as a normal wear and tear and cannot be covered by the warranty after 1 year. I also asked them if it can be repaired at extra cost, and the answer was no. Very doappointed with the quality and warranty service.
I really like this bag. This is arguably one of the best bags I have owned. Good size for plane travel, and both my 15" laptop and iPad air fit in the same compartment.
This is a really nice backpack with great organization and small form factor, which I wanted. I do not need to carry a laptop on a regular basis and this is what swayed me towards this bag over the larger Search. The laptop compartment in that bag would definitely be more advantageous for someone always traveling with a larger laptop. The compartment on this bag is perfect for my MacBook Air 13”, some papers and an Ipad.
The slightly smaller size of this bag allows it to easily fit under an airplane seat with plenty of leg room for me at 6 feet tall. If I need more room, the expandable zipper gives me more room than I would ever need for a commuter pack.
The quality is nice and the materials used definitely set it a notch or five above my usual Osprey sport bags. It makes a nice complement for trips to nicer destinations where a beat up hiking pack simply would not fit in. I do feel that this is very expensive but, like similar luxury items, you do pay more for diminishing functional returns.
Quality is great. The side pocket that appears designed for a water bottle is not big enough for any that I have. I retired a previous Tumi backpack for this and this seems to have a fraction of the space. I wish everything about it was just a little bigger the main section offered the option to expand it when needed. Guessing this all worked great in "the lab" but got very little practical testing by those who travel a lot and use these bags.
