I had been reading reviews on the WiiM AMP for months now and finally decided to give it a try now that Best Buy has them. I've got a few Sonos Amps and Ports in my house, but this is going in my workshop, so I'll never need to include it as part of a Sonos zone.
I hooked it up to an older pair of B&W DM602 I had from an older system that I upgraded a few years ago. The setup was super simple. I downloaded the WiiM app, and within about 3 seconds, the app found my AMP. I was able to name it "Workshop WiiM" and had music playing in no time at all.
I linked my Pandora and Tidal accounts. I mostly listen to Spotify via Spotify connect. The Workshop WiiM showed up as an available player, and seamlessly connected.
Out of the box, without making any sound adjustments, the sound was fantastic. It was warm and rich, sounding more like a Class A/B integrated than a digital streamer. My Sonos Amp never sounded this good. It seems like way more power, much cleaner and more detailed.
After a few hours of it breaking in, it sounded better and better. Eventually I got around to messing around with the graphic EQ switching between the preset curves. I later went into the Parametric EQ setting and really dialed in the sound to my liking. WAY more customization than the Sonos. I also tried the adaptive EQ. I was blown away with how simple it was to use.
Even though I control it from my phone 99% of the time, I found myself using the volume knob on the Amp because of how good the tactical feel of the knob is.
I will surely be looking to add more WiiM products to my system.
I previously owned an all-in-one turntable and was looking at upgrading my system. I picked out a highly rated turntable that I wanted but was overwhelmed by the number of speaker, amplifier, AVR options and combinations. To keep things small and simple, I landed on a pair of Klipsch R41M speakers and this Amp. The setup process was really simple and I was listening to in minutes. I can use my setup for both vinyl and streaming which was my goal. I got everything for less than $1,000. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
