As a huge Marilyn Monroe fan, I’m extremely disappointed with the execution of this doll. The biggest glaring inconsistency is “the signature platinum ‘Monroe bob’” that is parted to the incorrect side. Marilyn parted her hair to the right, not the left. She features a plain black stand base, which I scoffed at for the price. This doll, celebrating Marilyn’s centennial, deserves a proper custom stand with her signature engraved at the very least. Her “diamonds” are cheap plastic. Mattel did themselves a disservice to not only the collectors but to themselves by recreating the pink “Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend” dress that was already featured on Barbie in 1997. We can easily see the decline in accessories, as the ‘97 doll features real jewelry rather than plastic on this 2026 version. The dress feels very cheap ans thin. While I respect this is one of her most well known outfits, I wish that this doll featured a dress that Barbie has not yet worn. For her 100th Birthday, Marilyn also should have received her own face mold. The Aphrodite face mold does not have Marilyn features, and does not make this doll feel authentically Marilyn. Her eyes appear cross eyed as well. The 90s Marilyn dolls far exceed this!
