We remodeled our kitchen 30 years ago with all new high end appliances. Within a short time one of our 27” ovens quit and then our range top. We looked at all the different brands and settled on the GE Chef’ 27” double oven. It’s too soon to write an in-depth review but I can say they look nice and are easy to operate. Beware that only the top oven is convection not both!
New wall ovens since kitchen renovation in 2003. Wow!! My original Dacor ovens were great, but these are several steps above, but I’m going to really miss having all my shelves on ball bearings.
Pros: - I find I'm particularly enjoying the air-fry mode that was added in a recent firmware update. - It's extremely easy to see the oven contents with the clear glass and dual interior lights. - All the modes appear to function correctly as designed. - The unit has clean lines and is attractive in the kitchen. - It seems like it will be easy to clean, although I haven't needed to clean up anything significant yet.
Cons: - The Android app is truly awful. Timer notifications come in sometimes as much as 15 minutes late, and many oven modes simply aren't supported by the app at all. - I hate the placement of the timer button on the touch screen. When I click the screen to wake it up, and the upper oven is running, the timer button starts at the bottom right corner, then moves up slightly to accommodate the "lower oven" bar, so that I always end up switching to the lower oven instead of opening the timer interface. Also, unless the cook timer is set, it's very hard to see the timer from a distance, as it's very small font in the corner of the screen. - You can only turn on the light in both ovens at once; there's no way to only turn on the light in one oven. - I wish the proof mode had a temperature setting. The 85-90 degree default works fine for yeast bread proofing, but my salt-rising bread needs 100-105 degrees, which is in between "proof" and "warm" modes, and means I can't use the oven for that. - Fingerprints show up pretty badly.
These wall ovens are great. They operate much more quietly than my previous wall ovens. They also seem to heat very evenly throughout.. I also love love the Thermometer probe feature as well as the Wi-Fi.
I was looking for a professional oven so that I can make breads, cakes and pastries. Correct and consistent temperatures are incredibly important. I also am limited to a 27 inch oven. Based on features and other reviews, I purchased the Cafe. I am so glad that I did as it is a delight to use.
Too basic smartness... Unable to adjust screen brightness...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
