My Review of the Nothing Phone 4a Pro Plus a Short Comparison With the Nothing Phone 3
I own both the Nothing Phone 4a Pro and the Nothing Phone 3, and after spending time with both devices, I have since switched to the Phone 4a Pro as my daily driver.
The Nothing Phone 4a Pro is a solid midrange smartphone. It does not particularly excel in any single category, but it also does not have any major weaknesses. It is a well-balanced device that delivers a good overall experience for everyday use.
The Phone 3 frequently goes on sale at Best Buy. If both phones are priced similarly, I would strongly recommend choosing the Nothing Phone 3 instead. However, if the Phone 3 is closer to its regular retail price, the Phone 4a Pro is the more ideal option.
Design and Build Quality
The design of the Nothing Phone 4a Pro is one of its strongest aspects. It is thin, fairly lightweight, and features an aluminum build around most of the device. The plastic camera island at the top resembles the camera design seen on the iPhone 17 Pro series, which gives it a unique appearance while helping keep the weight down.
The phone also includes a clear case in the box, which is a nice addition since many smartphone manufacturers have stopped including cases with their devices.
However, both the phone and the included case are major fingerprint magnets. They collect smudges very easily and require frequent cleaning to maintain a clean appearance. Additionally, the camera island is made from plastic rather than glass, meaning it is more susceptible to scratches over time.
Performance and Software
The Nothing Phone 4a Pro feels fast and responsive with Nothing OS 4.1 installed by default. The software experience is clean, with little to no bloatware aside from the standard Google applications.
For normal daily tasks, the phone should remain smooth throughout its software support period. Unless you are performing demanding workloads such as video rendering or intensive gaming, performance should not be an issue.

Compared to the Nothing Phone 3, the Phone 4a Pro makes some improvements while also having a few compromises.

- Worse haptics. The vibration motor on the Phone 4a Pro feels louder but less refined and less pronounced compared to the Phone 3.

- Shorter major Android update support. The Nothing Phone 3 is expected to receive major Android updates until 2030, while the Phone 4a Pro is expected to receive updates until 2029.

- Slower CPU and GPU, while normal tasks should not see a major difference. High performance tasks will always excel on the Phone 3. This also means the Phone 3 will age better long-term wise.

However, when the Phone 3 is sold at full retail price, the Nothing Phone 4a Pro becomes a more sensible choice for users looking for a modern, balanced smartphone with a unique design and clean Android experience.

Well worth the money

I switched from an iPhone 11, and this absolutely smokes it in every aspect. It is easily one of the best phones on the market at its price point and genuinely fun to use. This isn't the phone for everyone, though—and it's not meant to be. If you only care about raw specs and heavy gaming, you should probably consider something else. Otherwise, it's incredible.
