I probably get 500 pages (one ream)...maybe 600 or so on the average. I choose the genuine HP cartridge because I like the prompts my printer gives recognizing the installation taking me through a couple tests ensuring proper color, alignment, and some

Hi Mike,
I was sorry to hear that the cartridge did not work for you. That must have been frustrating.
It could be that it actually is the correct cartridge though. Perhaps the contacts on the cartridge got smudged or are damaged so that it is not recognized by your printer.
You can carefully polish the copper contacts on the cartridge (and the matching ones inside the printer) with some kind of lint-free material to get off fingerprints or dust.
If that does not help, please consider returning it.
