Safety concern - Poorly visible OFF indicator
on October 17, 2026
Posted by: Ramach
I am extremely disappointed with the safety-related design of this KitchenAid gas cooktop.
The OFF position marking on the control knobs is extremely difficult to see, making it unnecessarily hard to confirm whether a burner has been completely turned off.
For a gas appliance, this is more than a cosmetic or usability issue — it is a potentially serious safety hazard. Someone could mistakenly believe a burner is OFF when it is not, potentially allowing gas to continue flowing without a flame.
A basic safety expectation is that users should be able to clearly identify whether each burner is OFF. Unfortunately, this product falls short of that expectation.
I am sharing this review because I would not want another family to purchase this cooktop without being aware of this concern. I strongly encourage prospective buyers to examine the knob markings before purchasing.
KitchenAid should redesign the knobs with highly visible OFF markings or incorporate an illuminated indicator showing when a burner is on.
Given the potential consequences, this issue deserves immediate attention from the manufacturer.
Safety should never be compromised for aesthetics.

Does the job, but......

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The ignition switch is challenging to use. Often when turning the burner to simmer, the ignitors will continue to click. Note this is not unique to this cooktop as it was prevalent on my previous KitchenAid gas cooktop. The quality of the stainless steel does not match that of other competitors in that price point.

Simmer?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've tried all burners and can't seem to find the low simmer mode once my pot reaches a boil. Really need low simmer to keep things from splattering.

Powerful but stainless steel will show streaks

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Truly love the stove top the heat, consistencies phenomenal the fire and the flame definitely turns up the heat a lot faster than traditional gas stoves. The only complaint that I have is cleaning it does show streaks but other than that everything is done really well you do need to pay attention to the gas knobs. If you don’t pay attention to it, you could accidentally have the gas stay on so just make sure they are fully turned off.

Terrible knob design. Easy to crack plastic inner.

I replaced my Whirlpool GLS3665RS 5-burner natural gas cooktop with this model. I chose it because it offers excellent power, high-BTU front and center burners, and a very reasonable price. After only one week of use, the center knob developed a crack around the center mounting hole, and the metal retaining clips came loose. As a result, the knob became very loose and can no longer turn properly. One issue with the design is that the knobs are difficult to operate. They don't have a lip so you must hold edge to grip and turn. Since you also have to push the knob down before turning it, using them requires more force than expected. The center burner knob is especially stiff, which is likely why it cracked—the knob is made of plastic and covered with metal cap. I'm disappointed with the quality of the knobs because they are one of the components you interact with every time you cook. While the cooktop itself performs well and offers great value, the knob design and durability leave a lot to be desired.
