Serious Safety Concern – Poorly Visible OFF Indicator on KitchenAid Gas Cooktop
I am extremely disappointed with the design of this KitchenAid gas cooktop, particularly from a safety perspective.
The OFF position indicator on the control knobs is extremely difficult to see, making it challenging to determine whether a burner has been completely turned off. This is not merely a cosmetic or convenience issue — it is a serious potential safety hazard.
With a gas cooktop, it is absolutely critical that users can clearly and easily identify whether the gas supply is turned off. A poorly visible OFF indicator increases the risk of someone unintentionally leaving a burner in the ON position, potentially allowing gas to escape without a flame.
For a brand like KitchenAid, I would expect safety to be a fundamental consideration in product design. Something as basic as a clearly visible OFF indicator should never be compromised for aesthetics.
I am sharing this review because I would not want another family to purchase this cooktop without being aware of this concern. This is especially important for households with children or elderly family members.
Due to my concerns about this design, I have decided to replace the cooktop with another brand.
I strongly urge KitchenAid to reconsider the knob design and provide a clearly visible, high-contrast OFF indicator.
My recommendation: If you are considering purchasing this cooktop, please examine the control knobs and OFF indicators carefully before making your decision. Safety should always come first.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My one critique is the on/off knobs. They are too large for me to be able to turn from the lowest setting to an off position in one move. Also it’s difficult to see the black dot made by the line to show the flame position. I’m elderly and may not have the wrist action required to turn the knob and eyesight might be weak too. Although I wear glasses.
I would recommend this to a friend!
