The sound is incredibly immersive, with deep bass, crystal-clear dialogue, and a true theater-like Atmos experience. True theater-grade immersion without the AV receiv

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve owned a few traditional audio setups over the years, but upgrading to the 2026 HW-Q990H completely redefined what I thought a soundbar system was capable of. Having the main bar, a dedicated subwoofer, and physical rear speakers completely transforms the room without forcing you to run wires through your walls.
Here is my honest breakdown of the audio performance:
* Immersion: With a true 11.1.4 channel configuration, the level of physical immersion is incredible. Because the rear speakers and the main bar have physical up-firing and side-firing drivers, Dolby Atmos audio doesn't just fake a surround effect—it literally wraps over your head and around your shoulders. When watching a scene with heavy rain or a plane flyover, you feel entirely cocooned in the center of the environment.
* Soundstage: The physical width and depth of the soundstage is massive. It projects audio incredibly wide to the left and right, making a standard-sized living room feel like a massive commercial theater. The directional tracking is seamless; as an object moves across the screen, the audio tracks perfectly with the picture.
* Clarity: Even during chaotic action sequences with heavy background tracking, the vocal clarity is razor-sharp. The center channel processing does an amazing job of separating speech from background noise, meaning you don't have to constantly fiddle with the remote or turn subtitles on just to catch whispered dialogue.
* Dynamics: The sonic dynamics on this unit are stellar. It handles the transition from a dead-silent, suspenseful whisper to a massive, sudden explosion instantly and effortlessly. There is absolutely no distortion or clipping at high volumes, giving you a massive cinematic range between the quietest and loudest moments.
* Resonance: The 8-inch subwoofer delivers a deep, impactful low-end resonance that you can genuinely feel in your chest. Thanks to the built-in room calibration, the bass avoids that muddy, cheap boominess and instead provides a tight, controlled rumble that blends perfectly into the room's natural acoustics.
The Downside: It is a massive investment, and the main bar itself is quite long, so you will need a decent amount of TV stand real estate to house it properly.
Overall, if you want uncompromised, theater-grade audio performance without the absolute headache of setting up an AV receiver and wiring individual speakers, this is arguably the best out-of-the-box system on the market right now.
