Ice maker problems

Before purchasing this refrigerator, I read the reviews & should have listened more carefully to the comments. I agree that the right refrigerator door swings all the way open creating an issue. It should have a stopping point mid way. Also the ice maker is VERY loud and when you try and obtain cubes all you get is crushed ice. But as of yesterday nothing is coming out at all. I can hear it grinding within the cubes but nothing is coming out. And also there is a constant drip down the front of the ice maker. I am thinking that the cubes have frozen together to a point of one block and as it's trying to grind them it's creating shaved ice and that's getting lodged in the chute creating the drip. I'm trying to figure out how to remove the ice cubes from the door to see if that's the case. But can't figure out how to do that. I looked in the manual but there's nothing listed about removing the ice cube bucket so I can remove the larger pieces of ice. Also as commented within the reviews, I do not like that there isn't a cup (so to speak) to catch the water drips under the chute. Instead it drips down the front of the freezer door. I placed a napkin under the ice maker chute and it is constantly wet. These issues are the reason for the one star review. P.S. It would be nice if Lowe's sent a crew to deliver the refrigerator that speaks English. It was extremely difficult to correspond with the 3 men that were sent.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are happy to help with the operation of your refrigerator. To remove the ice bin, lift the front of the bin and slide it forward. Once removed, you can clear out any clumped ice. For additional guidance, please refer to the following article: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16843#:~:text=Check%20for%20and%20remove%20clumped,Side%2Dby%2DSide%20models.
To help prevent ice from clumping in the future, please refer to the following article: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=21554
The icemaker may make a loud sound when the ice cubes drop into the ice storage bin. This is normal operation. You may also hear a humming or clicking sound when the icemaker fills with water. These sounds may occur once or multiple times during the ice-making cycle.
For more information about the sounds your icemaker and refrigerator can make, please refer to the following article: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=15901
Yes, the doors on your refrigerator are designed to stop at a specific point when opened. This helps prevent the doors from swinging fully open and potentially hitting a nearby wall, cabinet, or other object. The door stops are factory-set to 150° and cannot be adjusted.
If the doors are swinging past this point, or if the icemaker is still not operating properly, you can schedule an appointment with one of our Bodewell technicians by calling 1-833-4BODEWELL or online here: https://www.bodewell.com/schedule-repair-service.

Stylish and functional

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perfect size for my family! Very easy installation, no trouble at all with putting together the shelves or hooking up the water line. The delivery guys had to take off the doors to get it inside but once inside we had no trouble moving it to the kitchen. I love the turbo cool and turbo freeze functions because we are having a very hot summer here in Ohio! This unit is extremely quiet, no noise at all except when I dispense the ice and water. The lighting is very aesthetic and appealing. The shelves inside are very easy to clean. I really like the no-fingerprint feature on the handles with all my kids! The only issue we have after using it for a couple months is the ice dispenses kind of sloppily. I dont know if there is a way around that, maybe holding the cup higher. A minor inconvenience, as to overall this is a great fit for us.

Great Refrigerator

Overall a great refrigerator. The one issue keeping it from five stars is the ice dispenser. It still “shreds” the ice in cube mode splattering all over the floor. Hoping it just a defect requiring a minor fix.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worse refrigerator ever ice maker doesn’t work
on July 2, 2026

Ice maker doesn’t work, and water drips. This is from a brand new refrigerator.
Response from geappliances.comBy DiegoGE_AppliancesJuly 7, 2026
We would like to help you with your refrigerator's ice maker not working. We recommend keeping in mind that for a new installation the icemaker itself can take up to 24 hours to get cold enough to produce ice. Also, make sure that the fresh food temperature setting is 37 degrees Fahrenheit and the recommended freezer temperature setting is 0 degrees Fahrenheit. You can find more information on the following article: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17402

It is not unusual to see a few drops of water dripping from the dispenser on your Refrigerator after having dispensed water. This is caused by pressure on the water line and changes in temperature causing some condensation to form and drip. However, if water continues to drip constantly after using the dispenser we recommend scheduling an appointment with one of our Bodewell technicians by calling 1-833-4BODEWELL or online here: https://www.bodewell.com/schedule-repair-service.

Ice and shelf

Ice is crushed even on cubed setting. One shelf is too short by 5 inches.
Response from geappliances.comBy MagelaGE_AppliancesJuly 7, 2026
We want to assist with your ice dispenser and refrigerator shelf. We recommend confirming that the dispenser is set to Cube and dispensing ice for several seconds, as a small amount of crushed ice can remain in the dispenser from the previous setting. If the issue continues, we recommend having the unit inspected by one of our Bodewell service technicians by calling 1-833-4BODEWELL or online here: https://www.bodewell.com/schedule-repair-service. We want to look into the refrigerator shelf further. An agent will be reaching out to you to gather more information. Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Poorly design ice maker
on June 29, 2026
Posted by: Unklemilt
1.It's been 48 hours and the ice maker only has 12 cubes in the basket - UNACCEPTABLE.
2.The ice/water dispenser sprays out past the glass causing water on the floor around you thus
creating a safety concern .
3.The water dispenser drips after you put water in a glass. There is no catch for this drippage thus creating a safety concern of water on the floor.
4.All temp controls are automated, you cannot change temperature.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are glad to assist with the operation of your refrigerator. For proper ice production, the icemaker needs to be at 15°F or colder, and the freezer is best kept at around 0°F. Also, if there is very little or no food in the fresh food or freezer compartments, ice production may slow down because there isn’t enough stored food to help keep temperatures steady. A fuller refrigerator helps maintain more stable temperatures.

A restriction in the water supply line can reduce water flow to the icemaker. This is usually a plumbing issue, not a problem with the icemaker or refrigerator itself.

When the freezer temperature is too cold, the ice can become more brittle and may spray more when it’s crushed. To correct this, turn the thermostat control to a slightly warmer setting. Ice may also spray over the side of the glass if the glass is held too far from the dispenser chute. Holding the glass about one inch from the chute will help. Ice can also spill if the mouth of the glass is too small; if possible, use a wider-mouthed glass with a 3" to 4" opening.
It is not unusual to see a few drops of water dripping from the dispenser after having dispensed water. This is caused by pressure on the water line and changes in temperature, causing some condensation to form and drip. However, if water continues to drip long after the glass has been removed, service may be necessary.

The temperature can be adjusted on this model. Please refer to page 10 of the Owner's Manual for guidance here: https://images.salsify.com/image/upload/s--GMok2xdS--/ee1577528d7c3e713e35c578638438ecc9b03598.pdf

Lots of space and love the large cup ice maker design
on June 26, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This fridge is really good. I love all the shelves. They are adjustable and I can fit a lot of things on them. They came with a lot of bins for the door of the fridge. It doesn’t have like a deli tray, but it does still have two drawers at the bottom that you can use for your fruits and veggies, but it is different to not have a dedicated space for my meat and cheese as well as there’s no spot for eggs in the door. The icemaker is a little on the small side in the freezer. The freezer does have a lot of space though for holding your all of your frozen items. The icemaker being on the door means you have more space in the freezer for the shelves and there is one bottom drawer, although you do have less bins on the door this way, it only comes with two but I do not find I need any more than that. I have not found a cup that will not fit under the ice maker, which is really nice because with my old fridge I would have to tilt my cup and try and make it fit under there to get ice. Now I can just set any cup under with this one and fill it with ice. Also does not show every fingerprint which is a major plus. Thing is huge and holds temp well. Door alarm button is inside the fridge which is a cool feature and I like the turbo cool and freeze option, not that I think I will need them often. Now the negative part of my review, which has nothing to do with the GE fridge and everything to do with the company that delivered it. They refused to install it in my house. They left it in the middle of my garage. I was wanting to put the old fridge out in the garage anyway so I would have a second fridge for all of our beverages so it’s not the end of the world, but I would’ve at least expected them to assemble the fridge and do something for me, not drop it literally in the middle of my garage. So I had to install it in our garage as I could not get it into the house myself. Our garage is right off our kitchen though so it really still works for me. They refused due to my house being an old house with narrow halls and copper piping. They were angry they would have to disassemble the doors to get it into the fridge alcove and then used the copper pipes as their reason they could not install it. I was away on a work trip when they delivered (got 24 hr notice) so I had my mom there for the install which I think they took advantage of.
