The chair mat was purchased 8/22/13. Within 9 months it was completely cracked and had holes in it.

Not worth it

The mat came quickly to my house a bit dirty but was able to clean it. It never straightened out completely some borders are still raised even after a few weeks of use it's a hazard. The mat is very narrow it's only slightly wider than the rolling chair if we move the chair a bit to the sides it's out of the mat and on the wood. The mat moves all the time and it's annoying and dangerous. Since then I've bought another mat from the Swedish competitor slightly larger less than half the price and it's great sticks to the floor and I haven't felt it at all which is what you would expect from a chair mat.

This chair mat is fairly thin. It sits on a low-to-medium pile carpet. The rolling chair's wheels are making substantial dents in the mat which the chair tends to roll into. Moving the chair out of one of these memorized positions is an unpleasant uphill battle.

Staples®; High Pile Carpet Chair Mat

I have had this chair mat for about two months and so far. so good. I have a short pile commercial carpet. I measured the carpet thickness with a bent open paper clip and found the thickness as three quarters of an inch. I previously owned the "medium pile" mat from Staples that in about one year developed a large hole. Once you get a crack it's just a matter of time before the entire mat gets a big hole. I compared the thickness on this "high pile" mat to the "medium pile" mat that had the big hole. The "high pile" is definitely thicker. I weigh over 250 pounds and my chair has five wheels touching the mat. This mat shows chair wheel dents that go away when I get off the chair. So far no cracking. This mat does not slide around on my carpet as other buyers have complained. I recommend that you spend a few extra dollars for this thicker mat. Like I said the Staples "medium pile" mat did not last very long here.
