Staples' website describes the envelopes as "Heavily gummed flap seals securely." The envelopes I received had the type of glue that you would have to wet yourself in order for it to seal. Heavily gummed led me to believe it was self-sealing.

NOT recommended for small organizations

I had high hopes for this 6x9 inch envelope to use to send issues of my high school class newsletter through the mail but I quickly found that it was practically unprintable with a laser printer that almost every organization and small business uses. Yes these envelopes are economical & easy to use but addresses that are printed with a laser printer on them are so light gray really--not black at all--that I am afraid that the US Post Office's machines that automatically read printed addresses may not be able to read them. And the weak light grayness of the laser-printed addresses on these envelopes leave a very poor impression of the organization or business that sends them. The catalog description of these envelopes and the boxes they come in nowhere on either say anything at all about whether or not they are intended for use on inkjet OR laser printers. Nowhere are printers mentioned at all so Staples is certainly guilty of not giving customers who want to print such envelopes proper guidance in the selection of this product. I certainly cannot recommend these envelopes to anyone who wants to print them by laser printer. (I do not know of their printability on an inkjet printer.) I am very disappointed that Staples whose products I have used with satisfaction for years prior to this is so careless in the presentation to their customers of an otherwise fine product.

The only problem I had with this product is the count. There were only 230 envelopes in the 250 box.

This size should come with self-seal

Post Office allows 6-1/8" x 11-1/2" at the cheaper letter rate. This has been the size for several years now -- come on Staples! Get up-to-date! 6" x 11" with pressure sensitive seal are needed!

Good envelopes for my use

I need top opening cheap envelopes to put bridle numbers in for a horse show. These work great for me. They would probably be too fragile for heavy loads but for a light item they are just fine.

saves on postage

These 6x9 inch envelopes are large enough to send a number of sheets of letter size paper the envelope size still falls in the same postage category of regular #10 business envelopes and the white envelopes look professional. With the latest postage increase I save at least 40 cents postage per envelope by using these instead of a 9x12 inch envelope. That is important for my small business. Plus I can print the addresses on this size envelope using a laser printer but the 9x12s will not feed through most printers.
