I can't remember when I discovered that these large rubber bands make GREAT bookmarks but I've never looked back since. I particularly find them useful at the gym where I can use these oversized rubber bands to hold down both left and right sides of a book while I am on stationery bike eliptical machine etc. But now I use these at home or while traveling as well. In addition to my favorite use for these file rubber bands per above I often use them for sundry other purposes: to keep wrapped bags of salad after they have been opened and partially used to add extra closure to other food containers e.g. wrap around that container of leftover spaghetti & sauce or whatever to make sure it doesn't leak etc. And yes I actually sometimes use these rubber bands to keep files together!
I bought these Big Rubber Bands for home use but I can think of several uses for them also at work. At home the lock on my patio door wants to slip down and thus can lock me out if I'm not careful. I purchased these rubber bands and use one to secure the locking mechanism in place in both the lock and unlock positions. I simply put a knot in one end close to the end and slip it over the handle of the locking mechanism. Then I slip the big open end over the top of the handle in order to hold it in the unlocked position and then lock the door and slip the but open end under the bottom of the handle in order to secure it in the locked position. Works GREAT!
