I was ruining my wood floor prior to getting this Chair Mat. It matches perfectly with the wood floor and does not slip when I use it with my rolling desk chair which I also bought at Staples.
I am a doctoral student who spends a lot of time sitting and typing. I purchased a Skate chair at Staples in hopes of alleviating some back pain. It worked. However my wife did not like the fact that I now had roll-around wheels on my chair going back and forth over our hardwood floors. I looked around the house for carpet remnants that might fit the chair and tried a few. None of them adequately covered the area used by the chair as I sit down and stand up. Enter the Staples Wood Veneer Style Chair Mat for hard floors. I saw this item on a trip to Staples and picked it up for two reasons: it appeared to be the right size and it was the cheapest option available. I brought it home concerned that the rolls in it (it is packaged rolled up like a roll of paper towels) would not come out. No worries. After about a week of having the chair on it the rolls are gone. My only concern is that it moves around a little. That may be because I still have a carpet remnant underneath it. I will remove the carpet and see if that keeps it in one place. At least my wife is happy.
The chair mat was purchased to protect our hardwood floor in the computer room. The color of the mat is a complimentary contrast to the color of the oak floor. If the mat came in a larger size I would get a larger mat.
The color is great match to our wood floor very well. It is thick enough. No pin on the floor side so it is not intended for carpet otherwise slides. Biggest complain comes from the smell faint smell. I can't tell but my wife recognize it. Then I did too. Currently I am putting it on the garage. Hopefully the smell will disapper after a while.
