It sits on our hardwood floor. It prevents further damage to said floor. It cuts relatively easy with a utility knife.

It works but not cheap and still quite noisy on ceramic tile

I have ceramic floors and I was hoping this would also reduce the noise as well as protect the floor and keep it clean (which it does quite well). But still too noisy. If I were to do this again I would start with an area rug of the same size and then instead of the hard mat get one for carpet. (But then that might be prone to sliding....)

I actually needed one a little shorter than 48 in but I am making it work. Definitely cannot use it over area rug but it is protecting my laminate floor nicely. I like the black color and matte finish.
