Tumi Backpack – Not Worth the Hype

I recently purchased a Tumi backpack, expecting premium quality given the brand’s reputation. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed, particularly with the padding and support in this bag. After just a few hours of use, my back began to ache, and my shoulders felt strained. The padding in the straps and back panel is minimal, offering almost no support, which makes it extremely uncomfortable for extended wear.
Despite the sleek design and decent storage capacity, the lack of ergonomic consideration makes this backpack impractical for anyone who needs to carry it for more than a brief period. I was hoping for a bag that would be both stylish and functional, but this one leaves me with sore shoulders and back pain after each use. If comfort is important to you, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
Disappointed. I love the pockets and volume but the design is such that is constantly is tipping forward—even with a laptop to weight the back. Zippers for the secret side pouch and big front center pocket are too close and easy to confuse. Unfortunate that my last Tumi had zipper issues as this is inferior in design and function.
I love my Celina bag. I had a backpack that I purchased second-hand. I've have used the bag for over 10+ Loved the bag and so I decided it was time to replace it as some of the metal tag loops were gone. The leather handle was starting to tear as well. Overall the bag stood the test of time and wear from me. I've carried cameras, camera flashes, batteries etc. and the bag performed.
I expect my new bag will do the same. I love the fact that the inner portion of the bag is roomy. My camera fits nicely in it and no one can tell its in there. Love the extra compartments to carry batteries and battery chargers plus my SD cards. Yet the bag still looks sleek. Loving my bag.
I am 5’6” with a longer than average torso, this backpack sits uncomfortably low on my back. The straps cannot be shortened anymore than they already are - multiple TUMI stores have tried to help me, but I guess no one has ever asked them “hey how do these straps adjust to a shorter position and stay there?” Because when I ask they all begin by sliding the shoulder straps like we’ve all learned how to do but this backpack does not stay there. I wish there was an exterior compartment without a zipper for easy to grab non-valuable things like a car garage ticket, water bottle, cat treats, or whatever else you might want in a grab and go compartment. I wish the interior front pocket’s card holder was a little deeper or wider to better fit cash and cards. As it’s built - it holds one card but not very securely. The purpose-built phone compartment at the top of the bag underneath the handle is a nice touch - it is a snug fit for my hand! More than once I’ve held up a line trying to reach my hand into this compartment down to my phone. I have the smaller IPhone 15 (not a fan of the massive phones) and my phone falls deep into this pocket. I think I could turn the bag upside down and the phone wouldn’t fall out so that’s great, but therefore it also does not behave like a convenient grab and go pocket. The style of the bag is nice, it looks professional, and has held up well through airline travel.
I need a brown bag next and I’m going to search for a different style mainly due to the shoulder strap length issue.
