Note: Ours is motorized. Charming design that reminds me of the mine trains of the Rockies. As for the bear and smokestack..... They work fantastic IF you have the patience to make sure everything moves freely as you assemble and align the wheels properly. When building we didn't pay much mind to making sure of this but after about 10-15 min of checking and ensuring free movement ours now suffers none of the traction issues seen on YouTube or in a lot of reviews. All it took was a little care and attention to detail and we have been rewarded with a whimsical little train that matches the rest of the Holiday Village colors and theming.
I am always excited for the new Winter Village set to come out to set up my annual layout for Christmas. Love the last train and though I don't NEED two I figured it would be a change of pace. Just got it motorized today and found its pretty unusable. The design of the front wheels allows them to spin 360 and the lightness of the front of the train makes it derail regularly. The Polar Bear car is too light and the gear mechanism takes to much effort to turn resulting in the wheels not turning and the train just dragging it along. No idea why but they did not use the magnetic train couplers and instead used a few cheap blocks as couplings, so if you wanted to mix and match with the previous train you would have to improvise. Finally, the additional price seems too high for the rather small set considering the Powered Up pieces are not included. Even the extra little bench looks cheap compared to previous models. Really just an all around miss on this years addition.
If you are lucky enough to have or order a train motor from somewhere you will learn it’s a waste. The train will not stay on the track. It’s a nice display piece but it is not a working train to put around the Christmas tree.
No need to get into the weeds, other reviews have covered the sets issues. The 3D printed piece is cute, but feels like a gimmick. We’ve loved the 5 previous Winter Village sets, but this one is poorly designed and very overpriced. What a shame.
This is a good set with great play features. However it is very overpriced especially to not include the motorization. On top of that the parts needed to motorize are out of stock, which is frustrating. But the build is fun and festive.
The bear does not ring the bell on a consistent basis. The build made it too hard for the internal parts to move. Lego should correct and send updated parts and instructions on how to make it work correctly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Sorry to hear your Holiday Express Train didn't turn out as you expected. It should work correctly, and the bear should be ringing the bell consistently. We would love to help figure out what went wrong with your build, give us a call or chat at LEGO.build/Service-BV and we'll get it up and running!
