Some of the railings use GUNS for construction! I'm all for creative parts usage and I know that the kit says 18+ for ages. But really? It's a holiday train! Kids should be able to build it and play with it! Was that really necessary?
I’ve finished the locomotive because I wanted the install the motor and battery. I really need these components to complete it to my satisfaction.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice but poor when motorized

Overall the set is nice. However, it was painful to get the power up parts. I have the motor on backorder but built with a motor I had on another train.
While that made the experience disappointing, my real complaint is that the train cannot operate with the bear geared. The wheels can't get enough traction.
What I did was buy some silicone bands that I was able to put on the wheels below the bear. While this one would not work at all without the added straps, I had done the same trick with the previous holiday train with the turning Christmas Tree.
In short, at this price, Lego should include the extra train wheel straps. You (or at least for me) only need two (one each for the wheels directly below the bear)
The powered up app needs to be updated to include this train. It would make the play experience much better and the I would recommend it. The app needs a Santa voice saying all aboard, train whistle and some holiday music.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thanks for taking the time to leave this review! You should be able to use any train activity on the Powered UP app to control the Holiday Express Train once you've motorized the locomotive with the LEGO Powered Up kit (sold separately). Please do reach out to us at LEGO.build/Service-BV if you bump into any issues.

This was pretty fun to build and spend time with my son.
This train is super cute. It’s a good, straightforward build, and the little extras like gifts and train station are cute. I had two main problems…. One, WHY does the polar bear not have eyes?!?! It’s just empty spots and super creepy. I took two flat black dots from a different set and gave him eyes. I also found the wheels to be SO frustrating. The ones that are pre made and click in are great. The ones attached to axles are nearly impossible to space just exactly right. As a result, the train has a hard time staying on the track and the motion wheels have a hard time catching the track and causing the motion pieces to work. There must be a way to pre-distance these and still make them connect to motion pieces. Otherwise, love this train and it’s adorable in my Lego Christmas Village!
