[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this set in the hopes that train would work. I went online to try to get the battery packed, but it was sold out. Not sure when it will be available again. What a bummer!

If you are lucky enough to have or order a train motor from somewhere you will learn it’s a waste. The train will not stay on the track. It’s a nice display piece but it is not a working train to put around the Christmas tree.

While the train is attractive and fun, it is far more delicate than other LEGO builds: even when you hold it carefully you are likely to lose pieces that you've added earlier. In addition, the moving pieces, especially the bobbing bear, are designed poorly and require exactly the right amount of tension. Finally, when I added the Powered Up components I needed to significantly rebalance the weight so that the train had sufficient traction, and even then it would barely move. This is more of a display piece, and has been a disappointment.

I have been buying the winter village sets every year since they first began the series, and rebuilding them every year with my family, and this is the first time I have regretted buying a holiday set. The train is a step down in both build quality and playability from the previous version. I was hugely disappointed that they chose not to include the powered up components with the increased price, and even worse, failed to anticipate the demand for the powered up components needed to make it motorized, so I didn't even bother assembling the track because I had no way to drive it. (The set didn't work with the previous version's power setup). The train car connections are a major disappointment compared to the magnetic ones in the previous Holiday Train. Overall, it's an ok Lego train, but lacks the detail and whimsy that makes the holiday sets a fun tradition in our house. They found a way to raise the price while providing a worse product than the previous iteration.

The bear does not ring the bell on a consistent basis. The build made it too hard for the internal parts to move. Lego should correct and send updated parts and instructions on how to make it work correctly.

Good Set Mostly

This is a good set with great play features. However it is very overpriced especially to not include the motorization. On top of that the parts needed to motorize are out of stock, which is frustrating. But the build is fun and festive.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I loved this set, I have it on my kitchen table. But man just include the motor with it. I’d happily pay the money if it was included but now I have to wait for back order.
