If you are lucky enough to have or order a train motor from somewhere you will learn it’s a waste. The train will not stay on the track. It’s a nice display piece but it is not a working train to put around the Christmas tree.

Fun build but packing needs better info

I’ve been obsessed with LEGO since I was five years old. I still have my sets from the ’90s, and now they’ve been passed down to my sons, so LEGO is a big deal in our house. Unfortunately, this Holiday Express Train set wasn’t quite what we expected this season.
This was ultimately my mistake for not realizing the Powered Up components weren’t included. But the box doesn’t clearly communicate that these essential parts, motor, battery pack, and remote must be purchased separately. It just states on the back of the box it’s “ready for powered up”. We even bought additional track pieces to extend the track.
Now I’ve been scrambling to find the Powered Up motor and battery pack so my boys can enjoy the train around the Christmas tree. According to the LEGO website, the battery pack won’t be available until March 2026, and the motor is currently out of stock. Secondhand options online are either extremely overpriced or won’t arrive until well after the holidays.
My boys were really excited to see this train running on the track, so it’s disappointing that the necessary components are so hard to get and not clearly indicated on the packaging. The build itself is fantastic, but it would be great if LEGO made the required accessories clearer or more readily available so families can enjoy the full experience right away

While the train is attractive and fun, it is far more delicate than other LEGO builds: even when you hold it carefully you are likely to lose pieces that you've added earlier. In addition, the moving pieces, especially the bobbing bear, are designed poorly and require exactly the right amount of tension. Finally, when I added the Powered Up components I needed to significantly rebalance the weight so that the train had sufficient traction, and even then it would barely move. This is more of a display piece, and has been a disappointment.

Missing Pieces

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was having fun building this set, but starting on bag 5, there started to be missing pieces. I have built maybe 100 Lego sets before, and I have never had an issue with missing pieces, but I have found multiple pieces starting with bag 5, and it has been very frustrating. I still have had fun building Legos, but today has been the first time i have been disappointed.

The bear does not ring the bell on a consistent basis. The build made it too hard for the internal parts to move. Lego should correct and send updated parts and instructions on how to make it work correctly.
