Bought this to build and play with my kids. It looks good, but there are a lot of pieces that just seem to pop off with the smallest touch.
The play features are neat, but don’t seem to work with the motor. The smoke the wheels that turn the gear for the smoke stack don’t seem to turn unless you put more weight in the front of the train. If you do anything other than the slowest speed, the bear moves way too fast.
It was fun to build. We could each build one car or work together. But once it’s built, this seems to be more of a display piece than a play set.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ignore the reviews that are Pooh pooing this product, this set is fantastic and works well! The motors and parts required for powered up are not included so that is a minor con but you can purchase another train set (like the polar explorer one) that includes the required pieces since you’ll probably want a non holiday themed set for play during other seasons. The polar bear wagon requires some tweaking to align the wheels so it glides on the track as well as not making the arms too tight and a little silicone based lubricant so it moves smoothly. Once these steps are taken that wagon works perfectly!
Nice set, disappointing holiday village experience

The train is cute. The engine and passenger car were really fun builds overall. The coal car and polar bear were just alright. The main disappointment was that this set really didn't have the same collaborative, shared building experience that the other holiday village sets over the past 5 years have had. The single booklet for the train was a step back from previous sets and seemed like such an easy match since it would have been 1 booklet per bag. The other negative was how fiddly some of the floral elements were. The elements on the side of the engine were difficult to get in place and the wreaths on the coal car kept having the fruits pop off while placing them. The 3D printed train engine was cute and a nice surprise with mirroring the play element of the larger engine but it didn't really add anything to the set other than novelty. A final note, I only realized when I was adding it to my existing winter village collection that this is the first set I've built in the collection that didn't have a tree.
I purchased this train for multiple reasons. My 11 year old loves trains and we both love Christmas and I wanted to add this build to my Christmas Village. The build itself is fine no bells and whistles. It’s super cute once it’s built. However, if you want to motorize it, you have to buy those pieces separately. Once you add the hub and batteries and lay the track, that’s where the headache starts. The tires don’t turn well, the smoke stack doesn’t move well due to the tires unless you add some weight in that section of the train then it allows the wheels to gain some traction. The other wheels that stand alone move well but the wheels that have a black strap on them leaves them too tight to allow the wheels to turn. We spent quite a while trying to troubleshoot, looked up videos and it seems to be a consensus. Oh and I downloaded the app to operate the train and the this set is not already loaded in the app, I was quite surprised. For the prices of these sets and then paying extra to complete the set and for it not to operate as intended is a huge disappointment and let down. I’m debating whether to return it or not. Lego do better.
Lego does a great job of making a product that goes together and stays together. Instructions are easy to understand and follow. Final products are great for displaying and conservation starters. Assembling the legos id a relaxing hobby.
