I was hoping for something new this Christmas but a train was already released previously. Pretty much the same. Not happy with the price increase either
I bought this for myself and my family to add to our Winter Village holiday layout, which we have been building since the line was introduced. We look forward to buying and building the new set every year and have happily grown our collection. I combine the Lego Winter Village sets with my Lionel holiday trains to create a fun Christmas tree layout. This is a decent set, but based on the price I assumed it came with the motorizing Powered Up components. Please understand that you will need to purchase the motorizing components separately as the set does NOT include them. I'm not a fan of Powered Up due to the cost, so I'm planning to use some existing Power Functions components but am unsure if I can squeeze in the IR receiver.
The build was fast, the train looks good and runs well.
Keep in mind that the motor, remote, and hub are sold separately. Also the train utilizes simple Technic elements for the couplings (which I prefer for simplicity and reliability) instead of the traditional buffer-and-magnets.
I was disappointed in the higher price this year. To add insult to injury, there are less bricks. So, really, if next year's set comes out and it's the same "we'll charge more for less product", I will be foregoing any more Christmas village sets.
I’m late to the Christmas Village craze, so I was excited to get a train this year. It was not a difficult build. I was confused about the 3-d printed toy train. I hope that this trend doesn’t continue. Looking forward to setting up my Christmas display.
I purchased this Lego to add to our Christmas collection of legos and share building with my husband as a hobby. Then when we have grandchildren we will have something to share with them.
