New comer to the Winter Village series, as my first was the train station from about 5 years ago or so. Although I’ve felt the recent offerings have been a bit homogenous, I haven’t regretted buying any of them . . . Until this set! Lots has been said already of this set, and I doubt that I’m the first to comment on the following: the wheels on the front of the locomotive and the bear car look unfinished. The bear itself also seems like it’s missing some details. The front wheel bogey (is that the right word?) annoyingly spins almost 360 degrees The 3-D printed piece, imho, was not worth whatever trade offs were made so that it could be included. The parts of the printed train are too loose so the mechanics don’t really even work. I definitely would’ve rather had magnetic connectors between the cars than the technic pins. If prices are going to increase as we all know that they are, it can be a struggle to still show value to consumers, but that’s the challenge of retail these days. This set misses the mark.

Some of the railings use GUNS for construction! I'm all for creative parts usage and I know that the kit says 18+ for ages. But really? It's a holiday train! Kids should be able to build it and play with it! Was that really necessary?

It doesn't come with the power up feature, even though the ad shows it powered. Annoying...and the parts needed to actually finish the set are not available.

This build is cool, and this review probably won’t stop you from getting it. However, while the bear and smokestack movements look great, they’re not well engineered — they introduce too much friction when you try to motorize the model.
There’s also not enough weight on either the engine or the bear car to keep the mechanism functioning properly. As a result, the motor ends up dragging the build, causing the drive wheels to lose traction and spin out.
To improve performance, the bear car needs smoother mechanics, and the engine should either be heavier or designed to achieve better traction.

We buy the Christmas set every year for many years. This one is 30% more expensive, less pieces, underwhelming build experience, just learning you have to pay even more to have it actually run. All the previous Christmas sets have been so great. This year was a massive disappointment. I'd definitely skip this year if you are on the fence.

I’m very sad to share that this set was missing two pieces, one in bag 2 and 5. I checked everywhere for these pieces, retraced steps, checks box and bags, etc. 4496699 was an interior piece which I could just replace. But 614301 was the price to the bears arm and it looks weird without it.
