I have been a collector of the Lego Christmas since it came out. I was disappointed to get another train. I feel like there are several other items, school house, church or other options that could have been considered and more original than another train. And very disappointing to see the price go up and the build below avg.
This train is exactly what I would expect for what it is. It's meant to be stylized and have play value rather than be extremely detailed. I had a fun time building it, and I have fun watching it run around the base of my Christmas tree. I will say that it takes some deliberate and careful effort to make it run smoothly. As long as you make sure the moving parts are put together loosely, and the wheels can move side-to-side a bit, it should run just fine. Also, I've seen that the 3d printed part has gotten a lot of hate. I'm afraid I have to agree. The functionality that we get from 3d printing it rather than brick-building it doesn't look very good at all. I would rather have a brick-built micro-scale train with no moving parts than this 3d printed part. I hope we don't get anything else like this piece in the future.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Verified Purchase:No
I’ve been obsessed with LEGO since I was five years old. I still have my sets from the ’90s, and now they’ve been passed down to my sons, so LEGO is a big deal in our house. Unfortunately, this Holiday Express Train set wasn’t quite what we expected this season.
This was ultimately my mistake for not realizing the Powered Up components weren’t included. But the box doesn’t clearly communicate that these essential parts, motor, battery pack, and remote must be purchased separately. It just states on the back of the box it’s “ready for powered up”. We even bought additional track pieces to extend the track.
Now I’ve been scrambling to find the Powered Up motor and battery pack so my boys can enjoy the train around the Christmas tree. According to the LEGO website, the battery pack won’t be available until March 2026, and the motor is currently out of stock. Secondhand options online are either extremely overpriced or won’t arrive until well after the holidays.
My boys were really excited to see this train running on the track, so it’s disappointing that the necessary components are so hard to get and not clearly indicated on the packaging. The build itself is fantastic, but it would be great if LEGO made the required accessories clearer or more readily available so families can enjoy the full experience right away
I was disappointed that there was not an additional building available for my "village" and was not excited about the train. However, it far exceeded my expectations. It was a very fun build; there was more track than I assumed was in the set; and my grands LOVE it!!
I added the motor and such so the train can be remote controlled but it has serious traction issues. Even when I remove the back two cars it has trouble moving consistently around the track and frequently slips and stalls. I rebuilt the set three times to make sure it was all assembled properly and that all parts could move freely but still had the same issue. The set on its own is nice but disappointed in how it runs with a motor.

I’ve never been a big review writer, but this build was so disappointing. I kept thinking that maybe there would be something special or surprising about the next car, or maybe it will be fun to see the moving parts when it moves around the track. But the wheels don’t grip the track well at all, so it’s constantly derailing. Also the engine and bear are not heavy enough to activate their moving parts consistently. The price increase just makes it even more sad.
