Have used HR Block for years. Primarily because it carries over records. But this year you were unable to upload Merril Lynch statements. This was beyond frustrating
Cons: Hard to import documents

It made preparing our tax returns easier. But on the Mississippi return, it gave the option to apply all of our overpayment to current year taxes, which I marked "yes", but it did not apply the overpayment to current taxes, it would only refund the overpayment. Another problem I had was I could not find a way to view the complete return or individual pages, before filing.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast

Failed the most basic of State return requirements

Not impressed. I purchased the Premium product and the modules for two states as I live in CT and work in NY. When completing the CT return it failed to give me credit for the taxes I had paid in NY and told me I had a huge CT state tax bill. No matter how much I tried to fix the error I could not get it to work.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Third year using H&R. Was using Turbo Tax for 20+ years but grew tired of their recent releases which had problems for many (including me) regarding updates. Know issues were you had to uninstall, then re-install program for the update to take. That became a pain in the... Have not had that issue with H&R. Program looks a little dated, and probably need a refresh. But, it works as it should. Great value! And, I'll probably will continue using H&R in the foreseeable future.

Cons: Hard to import documents
