I have used TurboTax for years, but switched to H&R Block for my 2025 return. What a mistake. The Block software is not as intuitive as as TurboTax, online help is nonexistent, and trying to enter data directly into the forms is difficult. Most disturbing is that when I had it import data -1099 D, 1099 R, etc - from my brokerage accounts, it was a disaster. The data was placed in incorrect fields or, in one case, it incorrectly listed an account in my wife’s name. Never again
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was able to complete my 2025 taxes; however, I experienced several glitches in the system. It populated a form, which I had never used in the past and did not need, with a zero value. I had to delete the form before filing. I gave me a message that I couldn't file because the IRS was not ready to accept certain worksheets. The worksheets were not part of the official return, so I filed anyway. When I filed, it gave me a message the file was corrupt and that it repaired the file. After filing it displays that I have an AGI of zero. Fortunately, I checked with IRS and state, and both filings went through OK.
Pros: Easy to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!

This software got the job done, but the user interface is frustrating. There were several places where I wanted to understand what was behind the calculation - when the final form had a number I wasn’t expecting - but there was no way to click through to the math or rationale. Another example: on the main “Deductions” menu page, they show the topics but don’t provide a dollar figure to indicate whether any deduction has already been calculated in that section. This UI could be a lot more user-friendly.

Gets the job done. No recent experience with anything else (our taxes are too complicated for some services and I won't put all my stuff onto the Internet). Block seems to be doing a better job with rooting out the bugs and the navigation issues that have been seen in past versions.
I DO wish the Help function didn't inhabit the front of my screen even if I move to another application. At least it's a modal dialog box. Sometimes I just want Help out of the way while I'm working on other things.
