Great Tax Prep Software

I had been using the H&R Block office for a long time. Since my tax situation has not change for a long time I decide to give the H&R tax prep software a try. Liked it. It's a lot like the software that the H&R pros use. This is the second year and it has not disappoint at all. So I plan to keep using H&R Block tax prep software - for the foreseeable future.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

When we followed the prompt, it took us to "excess IRA distributions. We had none but
when we tried to go to th sub schedule, the program "Unexpectedly quit"

I've used the program for over 10 years and never had suck a problem. I did appreciate the program computing my SS taxable portion.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

This is a great tax program for individuals who do not have complicated tax issues. Regular income, interest and dividend income and retirement/ssa income are all easy to enter. The program takes you through all the possible areas of additional income and subtraction issues. Biggest problem is that H&R Block charges more for the State download than you will pay for the original Federal Tax program. Not smart on their part!

H&R Block Deluxe does a very good job of walking you through entering personal information, the numbers from W2s, 1099DIVs, etc., performing the calculations, and helping make many decisions. However, it is not a tax advisor that’ll explain for example, if “certain intangible assets” are pertinent to your situation. Nor will this program - or a human tax professional - compensate for haphazard record keeping on your part. Have reasonable expectations and assume you may need to read a few IRS publications if you have IRAs, teens earning income, kids in college, have investments outside of an IRA, or have just retired. I’ve used this program for years and been generally satisfied. The IRS has never come a knocking. To a degree I credit H&R Block Deluxe for that piece of mind.
