The software has some major drawbacks and issues compared to competitors. For starters, the software completely failed to ask if I wanted to itemize on my State return and defaulted to the standard deduction — a mistake that would have cost me several hundred dollars if I hadn’t caught it manually during final checking. It even generated the itemized state form, but failed to take the higher itemized deduction over the standard deduction.
It also forced rounding to the nearest dollar across all entries, which caused discrepancies when entering many smaller stock transactions. Even worse, it failed to import from Betterment despite claiming to support it, forcing me to manually input dozens of transactions — a nightmare.
On top of that, when filling out Form 8606 (for non-deductible IRA contributions), the software forced truncated rounding to 3 digits, resulting in incorrect tax calculations and a confusing basis carryover that could easily mess up next year’s taxes too.
To add insult to injury, every time I tried to use the in-software "Send Us Feedback" button to report these problems, it failed to contact their server and wouldn’t even allow me to submit an issue. So not only are there major issues, but they’ve made it impossible to report that it's broken.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

I’ve used this package for more than ten years and have had many problems. However, this was different. The state package was terrible. Incorrect calculations and doubling W2 values were 2 notable ones. I had to manually update most of the return. I will not use H&R Block next year.

I have used HR for many years now and no repercussions from IRS or state re: my return. I had to use a CPA once and he found no big errors in my HR return from the previous year.
