I found a huge issue with your software and communicated it to your help line. The issue was the running tab for the taxes owed on the interview page was not working correctly. A case was created but to the best of my knowledge you have never corrected the issue. That gives me a feeling of a lack in confidence for your software.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ok for federal but leaves us wanting more for Iowa

Federal return worked adequately but does not interface with Iowa tax software. It seems like software is behind on Iowa tax requirements.

I've used H&R tax software for 10 years. The product works OK, particularly after you get used to it. Reporting capital gains and losses on stock sales is a bit awkward. I've always felt that financial institutions and tax software providers should work together to create common electronic formats for 1099 forms. I dislike having to manually enter data from 1099 forms. I also dislike having to use HR Block to efile my return. Thats a copout that tax software providers have successfully lobbied IRS and State tax authorities. I'd much rather use a product that produced a file that I could send to IRS.

I have used H&R Block Deluxe for the past 20 years. It is dependable. Have usually not had problems with using the free filings, although last year the free filing did not work and I had to pay an additional fee to file. Overall, a generally reliable product.
