I have been using HRBlock for over 20 years, it has been very reliable. Last year, I tried Taxact for my child and it didn't have intuitive instruction like HRBlock and I ended up doing amended return and less refund than if I used HRBlock as I have done ran the same tax in HRBlock to compare.
Pros: Easy to prepare

You get charged for every state file attempt. Even if it doesn't make it far enough to actually submit it to state, you will get charged again.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I've been using this for years. It's certainly met my needs and I was particularly impressed when this year I earned wages in NC (from online teaching) while being a full-year resident of SC. The program handled the Federal return easily, as it always does. Then it took the data to NC and filled in everything and then took the data and filled in everything in the SC return. It knew to take a credit on the SC return for the income tax paid to NC. Made the job SO EASY. And simple to use, too. I will continue using it for the foreseeable future. I highly recommend it.

The program takes me through every step I need. I have one gripe, although it didn't affect my 5-star rating - I would like a "Don't show this again" option for the popup about the Read Me document for the screen size.
