I have been using H&R Block Deluxe for many years now and like it very much. It is easy to install, easy to use, clear and well organized. My taxes are not complicated and H&R Block is so well organized that I can complete and submit my federal and state taxes with just a couple of hours of work. I love the electronic filing, saves me from printing out return, making a copy, and going to the post office!

Okay for Basic Use - Poorly Formatted State Return

The software user experience was about on par with other types and the cost was slightly better than TT. However, not ALL investments were covered by this software, and our state returns were not accepted due to formatting errors with the software and we had to print and mail instead of e-file as we were rejected twice with error codes of "Formatting errors, contact your software provider."
Pros: Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare

A great alternative to Turbo Tax. A key phrase in its program: "If you don't have the Form (or Form Number to enter), enter (here)". In an effort to hastily take a Required Minimum Distribution, for example, without having a Tax Form to copy it from, H & R Block allows a place to correctly enter it. You can't "reason" with Turbo Tax's rigid program which will NOT allow such an entry without the proper Tax Form and Form Number from which to copy it, Attempting to "cyber-mash" such a figure into, say, Wage Income results in a much higher - - - and very incorrect - - - tax calculation. I have switched - - - and will stay switched - - - to H & R Block's Tax Software.

Cumbersome and requires a lot of manual form entry. No ability to keep notes for each entry. No ability to flag an entry for review. Does not pull all information from last year’s tax records. TurboTax much easier and more complete. Spend the extra money for TurboTax.
