Very disappointed this year had nothing but trouble trying to do my PA return after NY return would not load info from NY return. Don't know if I will use next year.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
Too many things required extra steps. Printing a payment voucher should be embedded right in the printed forms, rather than giving a link to the state's form, and further, that link was not only not live, it couldn't be copied either. Also, stock sales was disjointed and purchase price was not asked for until at the end, the form was flagged as incomplete. Not a very satisfying experience.
I messed up on my kids information and H&R revived the e-file rejection summary and told me what to fix. If I had mailed in my return this process would have taken months to resolve. I might just use my local office because they have direct support with the IRS. This would give me the most peace of mind.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
They get you with back side charges to e file State return and using your credit card to pay Federal 'owe' money.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Problem w electronic filing

Have used software for years but this year problems w NY State filing. Software prints out page explicitly stating: "NEW YORK STATE REQUIRES THIS INCOME TAX RETURN TO BE FILED ELECTRONICALLY...you MUST file it electronically." Yet when I tried there were no options to file NYState electronically and a statement that even said that New York State was not eligible to file electronically! An "options" page provided no useful information as what to do next. I had to file by paper.
The NY State was purchased, so what happened with the software?
