This application did everything I needed, and I fell confident that H&R has my back if I get audited. But I am more confident that I more likely will not be audited. I really like their check for possible problems and the chance to fix the issues. It’s a very easy app, too!
Very buggy. At times I would get a message that would pop up and wouldn't go away until I rebooted the program. I strongly believe there are are some errors in the Form 2555 which would have cost me money, and likely did last year when I used this program. An additional big irritation was that I started the 2555 Form checking the Bona Fide residence test, then when I decided to switch to Physical Presence test, it retained one line on the Bona Fide form which I could not delete--it then flagged it in the error check, and the only way to complete my return was to delete the Form 2555 completely and start from the beginning. The program did not succeed to import data from my financial institution, so lots of handwork.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
The underpayment calculation form was quite difficult to follow and it did not follow the software ease and layout used throughout; it seems that this portion was thrown in last minute into the software. I even clicked 'have IRS calculate for me and bill me' to avoid this part and the software kept taking me back to complete form.
It isn’t worth the trouble if you live/work in different states!
It doubles income from your W2 if taxes have been withheld from two states, very strange. There is a question asking if this has happened that allows you to fix the error the software made but when you do that it is considered some sort of problem that prevents you from filing your returns electronically. I’ve used this software (and it’s predecessor) for more than ten years but I’ll be getting a different one next year.
Software is okay but I still ended up having file a hard copy of my taxes. Even when I refiled after getting my 2018 AGI from this IRS. I understand why was rejected the 1st time but not after I made the correction as I was instructed to do. I hope that next year this does not happen again.
