I think this program could be much better. It seems old and out of date. I also made a mistake, and it took forever for me to correct it, making me go back and start the entire program over (my information was still saved, so I didn't have to put it back in again) to correct the problem. I always did my taxes myself until 4 years ago when I purchased my first H&R Block tax program. This is easier/less time consuming than doing myself. I have never used Turbo Tax or any other tax software for comparison. Maybe next year?
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Federal is only just ok. I had a 1099-B without base, and could not find out whether I needed to add a base and how to do it correctly. Ended up guessing after finding a pretty good explanation on a competitors web-site. Note that TurboTax is just as confusing here (checked with a friend in the same situation). For State, because my medicare wages are different than my state wages, it claimed that I needed a consolidation form that H&R Block does not provide. After downloading that form, filling it out, wondering what to do with it when I e-file, and then reading all the fine print, it became clear that if the reason for the difference between the two wages is evident from the w2, you don't need that form after all. All that information in the w2 was accessible to HRBlock, so they could have figured out I don't need it. Also, the process of going back to Federal to enter the estimated paid taxes for State while you're doing State is aggravating. The explanation on why you owe what you owe is absurdly thin - it comes down to 'you owe x, you paid y, so now you owe x-y' - no breakdown in what comes from dividends, interest, etc. So my trust was minimal and I ended up doing everything over again in a spreadsheet off to the side. Time to completion was about four times what I would have expected from a good tax software (due to the need of researching a lot on the side). Confidence that it's done right was also pretty think. In the past, I've basically heard back from PA one way or the other every other year for over or (usually slight) under-payment.
Clean, easy-to-use interface. Could use a little more detail on some options. But it does seem to get better every year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Include Easier 1040-ES

I have been using H&R Block Software for may years and am very happy with the product. The one feature I would like added next year is an option to be able to print Form 1040 ES for tax year 2020 based on simple quarterly division of the amount I paid in 2019 rather than the very long version of entering estimated figures which I find very cumbersome and therefor I separately go to the IRS website and download blank forms. Thank You for considering my request!
