I have been using Block Deluxe and its predecessor Kiplinger Tax Cut for about 20 years. It has always provided easy, understandable inputs and reliable results. I particularly appreciate the fact that it will identify changes in the tax laws that affect my return that I may not always hear about as I am not a professional tax preparer.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast
Cons: Hard to import documents

flawed submission process

After finishing and sending by internet, all 5 of the last years taxes records disappeared. I have copies, but now I can't go back into my software to see where and how computations were done.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've been using the programs for years. I like them. However, the prices seem to catch purchasers off guard. Purchase for one amount, then pay for transmission, then pay for state transmission. I just have SS, some interest income and a few dividends. Not enough deduction to itemize. I still end up paying a high fee for all the above. Maybe the others do to.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Software works OK. You have to pretty much know how to do your taxes to use it, but it's about the same as most other non-premiums software packages
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming

This is a decent program, easy to use and reasonably well priced. We have used it successfully for a number of years. Why only 4 stars? Because there seemed to be a little bug in the 2019 edition: kept asking for data about last year's itemized deductions even those we always take the standard one.
