I have used H&R Block tax software for more than 15 years. It walks you through the process for an easy and seamless transition for completing your taxes. In recent years you can even import many of your forms, as long as the providing institution allows for this feature. When more information is needed, the software provides links to help you get the information needed. A few years ago, we sold our home, moved to a new state and had an LLC for a short period of time. I opted to use an account for these situations but that wasn't really necessary. I used to H&R Block software to replicate what the accountant did and they both yielded the same tax results. I will continue to use H&R Block software based on my favorable results.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

This is a good Federal Product

The Federal was fine. However, there were issues with Arizona. Arizona needs to be carefully reviewed. Carry forwards from the Federal did not happen nor was my schedule A Charitable Deductions handled automatically. I had to manually correct the entried.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

HR Block deluxe software worked well enough. It experienced several updates, during the season, but that may reflect changing IRS rules. Updates went smooth enough. It listed what forms were "final" so that you new tax rules won't change..
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

H & R Block's Tax software program is very simple to use. The first time requires all the info to be inputted, next time around it's automatically transferred for you. The questions are simple and straight forward and all the forms are filled out for you. The program does a review of your return to check for audit "Red Flags" and if you may have left out information. H & R Block's Tax Prep Program is easy to use and costs less than "the other guy's" while giving you the same result.

Historically, this software has worked well for me. This year, I received an error when I submitted my Federal return via e-file. The error was very unhelpful, simply stating that "we can't e-file your return right now" and to call a 877 number to continue the filing process. This was all via email.
