I have been using HRBlock tax software for well over 10 years now. It is very important that there is year-to-year compatibility with HR Block tax software and that all of "last year's" data is incorporated into "next year's" tax return. e.g. annual depreciation calculations Other tax software may (or may not) be completely compatible with previous HR Block tax return files; - thereby necessitating data re-entry. So once you start with HR Block tax software, it is simpler to continue using it year to year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fighting with software took longer than taxes

It took almost an hour to get the software on one of our computers and running. We first tried the mailed CD, which did not load. Then tried to download from the website, and that didn't run. After enough restarts of both computers and re-downloading of software, it eventually ran.
Entering tax information took less time than that, though it was unnecessarily long. The software should have simply had options for entering information for all household members, and then providing the different file-jointly or file-separately results automatically. Wasting time re-entering information to do the separate versions was time we would rather have not wasted after loading the software had already eaten up an hour.
Once taxes were done, we got multiple popup/error messages that we needed to update the software despite the opening page telling us that it was up to date. One of the popups triggered the update, which then proceeded to shut down the computer without asking or even giving time to save other open files and close out other programs properly.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used H&R for years, but this year the software just doesn't seem to work. So far I've succeeded in filling federal taxes, but not my estimated taxes. I haven't been able to file my state taxes because the program keeps telling me I have errors but not how to find them.
