H & R Block is the only tax software I have used for over 20 years. I have never had a problem receiving tax advice when I needed it and the software has always prompted me to make sure I was consistent from year to year and did not have input errors etc. I have never had a problem with the I.R.S. or our state revenue dept.

The Homeowners and Investors version is easy to use and certainly does the math nicely. In comparison to the competition, the H&R bliock software does a nice job but at less purchase cost. While the purpose of the software is not to teach income tax, it would be a better package with a more extensive set of pop up boxes explain some of the obscure tax lingo, reporting requirements, and computational reasons and processes. For instance, this year I needed to report a schedule K for an estate and although it was certainly easy to make the entries, it would have been really nice to understand what were the entries, reporting requirements, and computations processes. That said, I still plan on using the 2020 software for next year's taxes.

I HAVE USED H & R BLOCK FOR THE LAST 4 YRS. I BUY IT EARLY FOR A GREAT PRICE AND IT IS SO EASY TO USE...........IF I CAN USE IT, ANYONE CAN USE IT.

A bit frustrating

For my state return I entered $1646 in charitable contributions, but that was reduced to $1146 on the actual return - why? No information is available about that. There should be some type of notation telling you why that is the case. Also on my state form, you can contribute money to charities out of your refund. I did that, but the program kept showing my refund amount before the contributions, and in fact when I filed the program indicated that the full refund would be going to my bank account. So I don't really know what is going to my bank account and whether the contributions that were to be taken from my refund were.
For federal- I tried to import some investment information from a third party site, and the software asked for my account number and password, but asked for no user ID which seemed odd, and then couldn't get any data.
I've used this software for several years- and this is the only year I remember being so frustrated with it. So I don't know if it has gone downhill, or if my "stay-at-home" time has made me somewhat more irritable.

I have been using H&R's tax preparation software for years. It is easy and straightforward to use. Even with changes in the tax law I don't have to worry about making a mistake.
