I’ve have two years of tax preparation experience with H&R Block and another ten years of experience as a volunteer tax preparer for AARP.
For the past 14 years I’ve used the H&R Deluxe software for at home use in preparing taxes, Federal and State, for myself, friends, and relatives. These returns are complex and cover all different forms of income/investments/credits/and covers other items reported on the tax forms. I save hundreds of dollars each year by using this sw, for myself/friends/neighbors.
This year I efiled my return on 23 March and my refund was direct deposited in my bank on the morning of 1 April, only seven days.
I’ve been very happy with this sw, it’s easy to use and understand, straightforward, and accurate. I’ve never had a Federal or State Return rejected or questioned with this sw.

Error in imported data from previous year's return

The IRS rejected my electronic 2019 return because the 2018 AGI used in the 2019 return did not agree with the 2018 AGI reported to the IRS. That is inexplicable to me because it was presumably imported from my final 2018 return which was prepared using the identical H&R Block software, except that the 2018 return was a mailed-in paper return., not an e-filed return. I wonder how this discrepancy could have occurred???

State program (MA for me) does not get the support and polish that would be nice.
Definitely the way to go, when you absolutely refuse to use Intuit (or descendant) products. I still remember when Intuit put a rootkit on my computer.

Needs a little improvement

Been using H&R tax program for a couple of years now. I would like to see improvements in the Federal tax area which would make it easier for reviewing etc. #1 Highlight the category that has an entry i.e. 1099-Int, 1099-Div should be bolded once you input data and move them to the top of the category. #2 Would like to expand the summary sheet and list each form that has data one it. i.e. 1099-int, 1099-Div, 1099-R etc.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
Cons: Time consuming
