I've used H&R Block software for many years. There were several instances in using the 2019 version of the program program that left me disappointed.
Searching for what to do with a 5498-SA we received took me to a form; nowhere on that form was the 5498 even mentioned.
The "accuracy check" took me to a 3-page form with NOTHING highlighted to indicate where the problem was, leaving me to guess.
I also had a form 1099-SA. Luckily I was able to enter it (somewhere), but in doing my review of my taxes I CANNOT find where it was entered (nor does "take me to" in the summary page take me there).
Overall, I must say that I will have to consider other tax programs for 2020.
It's easy to use. The only thing is, I had to fill out the entire return to find out that the standard deduction applied. Cold have save about an hour not having to enter all the data. A significant improvement is the auto fill in of broker data and W-2 forms.
Have been using this package for several years. Very user friendly. Never had a problem preparing my return. If you're unfamiliar with tax prep, just read all the questions and carefully select your choice and the software will walk you through the process to completion. If your return is not overly complex, the preparation will be easy.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
It is impossible to fix mistakes-the interview screens don't always reappear. The software won't let you change answers. The capital gains program is awful. You can't get real help from the program.
My federal e-file failed due to this software screwing up our IPN number (6 digits). First it asks for any IPNs, then it requests self creating pins (5 digits), unless you have an IPN, then it truncates it. So confusing, and no warning that you set yourself up for an IRS rejection.
