The ease to use it is good but the IRS cannot find my tax return. The software says it was accepted but IRS has no record of it

I have used H&R Block for 20yr with very little problems. With any tax software you need some knowledge of the tax laws so you can understand the questions that will be ask. With some study the program works well. Age 69

H&R does good to excellent job of informing the program user what the next steps are. I found program to be comparable with those of past couple years. Some areas of both Federal and State (Colorado) could be handled better with a bit more detailed explanation of either where the program is heading and/or how some results were attained.

It's cookie-cutter software. Most years, it has been fine for my situation. But not all years. For example, if you are covered by your employer's High Deductible Health Plan for the entirety of 2019, but decide to voluntarily retire on January 1, 2020 and sign up for Medicare effective January 1, 2020, you are retroactively signed up for Medicare part A going back 6 months, forcing you to withdraw excess HSA contributions for 6 months. I made the withdrawal on January 2, 2020. The HSA contributions were pre-tax and were taken out of my paycheck. So the withdrawal of the excess contributions has to be reportable income because it reduced my taxable income on my 2019 W2 federal wages (maybe state wages as well). My 2020 return will need to address this withdrawal. The H&R Block software is incapable of dealing with this when the withdrawal occurs on the year following the actual excess contributions. I will need to pay a tax preparer to take care of this when I do my 2020 tax return.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been using H & R Block Tax software for the past 10+ years. This years version continues to be very easy to use on my Mac as it walks you through the return preparation. I enjoy doing the return myself and avoid the hassle and cost of using a CPA. Accurate and easy to use.
