This was my first time doing taxes for myself and it was a toss up between H&R Block or Turbo Tax. I went with H&R, mainly because of reputation and affordability and was not dissatisfied. Problems I had were more related to my computer illiteracy and not being familiar with the the software program and how to surf through it, rather than the program itself. This resulted in a lot of "click on and test" for me and a bit of frustration, but customer service was pretty good as well. Now that I have used it, I will more than likely use it again and already have recommended the product to others who also have been satisfied.
updating process on Mac is clumsy. Instead of in-app mechanism, which fails, it works to download the package from the HRB website and update that way instead. Took multiple attempts for State download to work, also.
Love the ease of downloading and getting all the updates. The data coming back from last years return saves all kinds of time while the forms filled out last year are there as a reminder. I recommend the software to many people as I have been using it for over 10 years and plan on continuing to do so. Help is available as part of the software to help if there is any confusion. Keep up the good work.
the software works fine. It transmits to the IRS fine. But the menus are obtuse and often make zero sense. Hard to find some places to report income or deductions. And the review section at the end is junk. Tells you have problems but then when you follow the instructions to fix the problem they don't get you where you are going.
Used H&R Block Deluxe for many years. Have had no issues but occasionally have questions or it takes time to figure something out that is new for me and/or not well described.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
