Best value for the money, but still needs improvement. Interview questions are usually stated clearly, but not always. Some circumstances would be better addressed with a series of simple questions. The main drawback is the great lack of clarity with regard to retirement account funding and distributions. For example, neither interview instructions nor Q&A/FAQs allow the user to answer properly how to enter back door Roth IRA contributions.
I have been using H & R Block software for more than 10 years. Easy to use, well supported and educational. The software informs me of the documentation I need to file an audit ready return. I like the Deluxe version (includes the State software).
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Is a easy to use tool that walks you through a step by step process.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Have been using this program for the last 5 Years and always pleasd with the results BUT even though the Federal was good, sadly it failed my Ohio expectations by using the Federal Itemized Deductions miserably causing a huge difference from my 2018 return! While I am retired on a fixed income and have purchased the program I was able to use the FREE TurboTax program on line with the Ohio AGI as expected which I can highly recommend. Please refund my H&R Block Deluxe 2019 purchase cost.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The results from the H&R Block software showed a large refund which I did not expect considering last years filing. I had been paying $550 quarterly payments because I thought that I might be short. It turned out that I had a $7700 refund. But I have rationalized that and trust H&R Block software to provide the right answer and have now sent the filing in.
I had an issue. The amount of money withheld, 1040 line 17 did not equal the sum of the W-2 box 2's. So I should just click on line 17 to show me what composed the figure. That showed me nothing. It took a very careful reading of the IRS 1040 instructions for line 17 to determine that the tax product was correct. It shouldn't be that difficult! This took well over an hour to figure out, and I happen to be a volunteer tax preparer. I do or review well over 100 returns per tax season. Furthermore it is always a struggle to determine the taxability of last year's state refund. The product does not make it clear whether it is being taxed at all or to what degree.
