Would've given five stars but when I had to re-file due to two different typos I was initially charged three times (original filing, then the two different corrections) for the 'STATE' filing. A week later, one 'STATE' filing charge has posted and the other two are still pending. I assume those last two pending charges will just expire and not actually charge me. I'll try to leave a note here if that changes.
I've been using H&R Block tax software since it began as TaxCut about 30 years ago. I have become quite comfortable with the program. Initially I had an accountant prepare my returns. I was doing a lot of work collating the data to give to her every year. I bought TaxCut to help me with the data collection. My accountant told me I had done all the work she would have done and got the same results. TaxCut became H&R Block. I continued to do my own taxes. It is an easy chore for me, requiring about (2) day's work each year. I collect all tax related information in a file throughout the year. H&R Block tax preparation software is well written, easy to use and quite thorough.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
A professional tax accountant has prepared my returns for the past 10 years, and has done a great job, albeit at a much higher cost. Being able to export broker data directly into the program is essential. H&R Block puts the numbers where they should be -- I followed the money. The program has many facets and there is a lot to learn. Next year will be much easier.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
I've been using H&R Block since my taxes were more complicated. While they aren't now, I still see value in the convenience of a product that simplifies the process.
