good program design - simple, thorough. for very complex IRS form you might need assistance (friends?, pros?, internet?). otherwise it is a good value.
I had problem when I first started because I hadn’t done it for a few years. However, once I got the hang of it, it was a piece of cake.
Pros: Easy to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!

2019 Desktop Version Has Serious Bugs

Dear H&R Block: I've used this software for many years without problems but the 2019 desktop software has serious problems. I was not able to download the state version or activate the federal E-file due to communication errors (SSL errors) with the H&R Block servers. This is such a common problem that the software lists it in the FAQ section. This problem happens on various computers with various versions of Windows. It even happens on those computers that have successfully ran the software in previous years.
When I called tech support and finally spoke with senior tech support personnel they confirmed this was a known issue and said there were many, many angry customers calling about this. They told me they had never seen so many problems before and told me the company was promising to fix it but nobody really knew when it would be solved.
So after continuing to wait for almost one month for H&R Block to fix this problem I finally went out and purchased TurboTax. However before I installed it I decided to try the H&R Block software one last time. Voilà... the software was suddenly able to communicate with the server and download the state software. Finally !!!
While I can now use the software this is still simply unacceptable. Since tax documents are often not available until late February, users often only have a short amount of time to do their taxes each year so making them wait for buggy software to be fixed is a great way to lose customers. You need to make sure this issue NEVER happens again.
