I've been using HR Block 15-20 years. Very little has changed - The import from PDF is the only improvement that I can tell. The questions are written for tax/accountants, not mere mortals. It would be nice to be able to import from csv the charitable donations, but still have to type all that in by hand. The only benefit to continuing is that it imports last year's data and keeps track of the yearly tax-loss from stock sales plus my 80yo parents are used to HR Block, so I used it again this year for them.
Last year, I found bugs in the expat sections, so I can't use it this year for my son's return. So for my own family, I'm going to try Turbotax this year and see how it's changed. It's been 20 years since i used it, so worth trying again.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

For the second year in a row I was not able to file electronically and ended up having to print my return and mail it. The program kept giving a reason for the rejection as a problem with AGI from prior year. yet numerous checks confirmed that entered values were the same.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
