I've used the H&R Block software for at least the last 15 years, and it's always worked well for me and will use it again. I was a little disappointed that they didn't send it me in the mail or via email this year like they've done for years now. I had to find the program on internet and paid more since I didn't receive it in the mail and get a discount.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

Very disappointed you can't seem to do anything with Form 1116 Foreign Tax Credit. Essentially, the preparer must read the instructions and complete the worksheets and then enter the information they have calculated. And if you must also do the Form 1116 for AMT, it is really time consuming. At first the program would not transfer the result to the other forms, but thankfully, this was fixed!
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to prepare

"So easy, a caveman can do it..."

Been using HRB tax program for years. Always user-friendly format, "pesters" you with questions, but in the end nothing is overlooked. Gives you a cumulative total of taxes owed or refund as you go, so you don't get surprised ("shocked"?) at the end. Gets you going by automatically completing "boilerplate" forms by transferring info from prrevious year's tax forms that you've saved. As long as you have all your stuff organized beforehand the program is easy, straightforward, and quick.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

got my state taxes wrong this year. first ever.

ive used HR Block for more than a decade . this year it computed my state tax amount owed incorrectly. I dont know if it was because it had more updates to do. I filed my taxes march 27 2026 and 2 weeks later i got a letter from the state of NM that my taxes were incorrect and i owed more money. I went back to the tax program , it updated, and confirmed what the state of NM stated. I owed more money. not sure what happened this year but i didnt like it.

An update fixing the problem would have been nice

I have used this program for years. I was very disappointed that a known problem was allowed to remain and not fixed in any update or revealed to users. The link to upload 1099-DIVs was incorrect and therefore did not work. I found out the workaround from another user during an internet search after wasting two days. The link had letters and numbers at the beginning that needed to be edited out.
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I find the fees for buying and submitting state taxes very expensive, especially for very low income tax returns.
Also, my federal return was rejected and it should have been caught by your program. Firm 5695 part b, if an and b are no, then address should be blank. A and b were no, address was filled in and that caused it to be rejected. Your program should have caught this.

The double negatives that you use to ask questions should be made simpler to answer. Not necessary.
