Generally reliable and easy to use. Some things I end up having to figure out for myself.

Great software, but needs better support for expat

Overall, the software is easy to use and does a good job guiding you through the standard tax filing process. However, it lacks a dedicated section for expats or Americans living abroad. There should be clearer guidance, examples, and step-by-step support for situations like foreign income, FEIE, foreign tax credits, and reporting international accounts. Adding an “expat-focused” module would make this product much more complete and valuable for users outside the U.S.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I have been using H&R Block for several years. It is so easy to import previous year's data. The software is easy to use, and I am confident that my taxes are correct. There are some things that could be improved in Federal - I never can import my 1099-INT or 1099-DIV, even though I invest with major companies. 1099R entries were not clear. And even though 62 years old, we are not receiving Social Security. Software seemed to panic. It flagged it in data verification and I couldn't clear it. I'm guessing I'll have to deal with that for the next few years until I do start receiving Social Security. Also data verification flag for not itemizing deductions in previous year. Should be able to clear the flag by checking that I took standard deduction.
The State program (Virginia) was not as good. There aren't explanations. For example, a tax-exempt interest was brought over from Federal, but the program didn't say that it was. I entered the amount, and if I hadn't printed it out to review, I never would have known that it counted twice. Also on State, it would be good if you could print it the way the form actually looks, not just the software way. That would be better for proofreading.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast

I always use the H&R Block software for my taxes. But found it had two unresolved errors for which a solution never came from the company. It was in the area of foreign tax reporting. Except that it is was as usual. Hope new AI features make it less tedious to enter all data and understand the rules.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
