I have been doing my personal income tax myself for about 50 years. And for about 25 or more years I have used the H&R software. I don't have a business, so I use the Deluxe plus state software. For the last 20 years I have been retired, don't receive W-2 forms, but do receive multiple 1099 forms. the 1099s are from social security, pension, and retirement accounts. I also receive 1099s for dividends, interest, and capital gains. The latter increases the complication and significantly increases the amount of time if the returns were done manually. The worksheets alone take a considerable time. With the software the time is reduced considerably.
The complication, I address it by reviewing the results and the system generated worksheets. I e-filed both returns. The process was fairly simple and received my refunds within two weeks.
Overall, the use of the software and the H&R E-file process assured my confidence that my returns were accurate. I was highly satisfied with the H&R Block 2025 Software

Feels like H&R does the minimum updates each year

Three out of the last four years, it had a software bug. One of them was the same two years in a row.
This year it kept telling me to update my state, even though there was nothing available. I even called your support 800 number. No California update available. Most annoying.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I've used this software for over 15 years, I love it. Never had any problems preparing my tax returns. Great for investments and home ownership. It makes preparing your tax returns quick and fast. Fed imports to state and you can import previous years returns to speed up preparing your current year returns.

Attempted to claim energy efficient tax credit. Programming poor and resulted in rejection of return. “Help” (both AI and help button) was COMPLETELY worthless. Said “I can’t help you with that.” Unquote.
