Gather all data like 1099's, etc. and go through forms as required. Software is helpful to determine what else you need to consider, it will check standard vs. itemized deductions options. It automatically takes into account adjustments and calculations with mini worksheets available to view. Investment income (e.g. interest, dividends, qualified dividends, etc.) are placed on proper lines and forms. However, this year there were some review items that I didn't know how to confirm or revise; lack of instruction or highlight of a field to fix; didn't affect return. It was on a couple of 1099 forms for retirement income. The numbers shown matched what I input, so couldn't figure out what triggered the review.

Your screen for entering pension info dose not capture state id causing a problem with my AL return. I had to go back to the federal return and do a full page entry for state id. In addition you once preloaded the pension entries from the previous year but now you do not causing me to reenter all the info again. I have a number of pensions and 2 mandatory ira entries.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used H&R Block Deluxe for several years and am extremely satisfied with the product ease of use and cost over competitor TT. Also appreciate H&Rs continual improvement over the years, example being having the option of Various for Foreign Taxes.
Perhaps one slight improvement would entail not having to manually verify my downloaded (from brokerage) stock trades one by one, at over 100, it becomes a bit tedious.

There was a formatting issue when the HR Block software imported a W-2 from ADP. Caused a lot of trouble and was only fixed when I deleted the W-2 and entered the data by hand
