I have used Deluxe + State versions of Intuit TurboTax and H&R Block Tax over the years. They are similar but do require the user know how to find their tax records. The Federal is good but the Calif State is just ok because it can get a user lost in the forms instead of just giving the questions for the tax SW to fill out the forms for us. The Quarterly tax 1040-ES & 540-ES could be simpler to adjust. Penalty due on Fed & State seem to confuse the audit SW into thinking there may be an error which is usually not an error!
Pros: Fast
Cons: Time consuming

I started with TurboTax maybe 30 years ago and switched to Block when the price of TurboTax went up. I've been very happy with Block as it seemed like exactly the same service for less money until this year. I'm training my wife to do the taxes. We deal with several brokerage firms, and I always download their statements. This year I was unable to download Merril Lynch. That is a deal breaker which will force me back to TurboTax so my wife can download all the necessary forms.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

I've used the software for probably 15 years. This Windows 11 version is almost impossible to use. It is very hard and time consuming to scroll thru a page (for example schedule P)
