If you have all your necessary income tax documentation the H&R Block product is easy and straightforward to use. I originally started using it when my former tax preparer retired and suggested that I try it since I am an obsessive record keeper.

it's getting more and more expensive but still a better product than any other;

The software works well and can walk you through filling in your tax return with prompts to help you remember items that you need to include. My biggest complaint is the check did not accept all my revisions despite repeated attempts.

Good but too many late federal program updates

I have used this software for several years and have mostly been happy with it.
However, I was charged twice for a state e-file this year.
There are also several updates to the federal program after filing, and the state program always seems to be delayed until late January.

I've been using Turbotax for years and it has become more difficult to use each year. This year it required an upgrade of software that my Mac computer couldn't download. So my choice was to buy a new computer or try another tax preparation service. I read reviews for the H&R program and it seemed in line with others and it ran on my current computer. So I gave it a try and it worked fine.
