I've been using Block software for many years. This year the software was very problematic. Download early and start populating my return as I received documentation. Updated the software at each opportunity, but it created a problem with my data when updated in March. The only thing I was told I could do was restart a new return. It was less friendly last year than the previous year as well. I think it is falling off the mark and I am questioning continued use of the software.I never wanted to waste the money to hire the services of a CPA and the hassle of collecting, and going in person to get my taxes filed. But the difficulty over the last couple of years and the major issue this year may have pushed me into a new way to file my taxes.

1. Form 8398 will not let me input more than 5 accounts. I have 10 accounts so I have to fake it. Complained about this past two years, but no change to program.
2. Completed the 1040. Cleared all errors, corrected 2024 AGI. Now program will not let me input 2025 PIN numbers and can go no further.

I am an ex H&R preparer (Senior Tax Advisor) and find the program very easy to use and understand. I have friends who use the on-line version and find it very confusing.

Can't remember exactly which section, but at one point I was requested to enter the state for some particular income. I typed in "NM" (New Mexico), but the software came back with something like "not a valid entry". The entry box only allowed 2 letter state abbreviations, so eventually I just left it blank. At the end, it didn't flag as an erro, and I got my refund back, so "no harm, no foul" I guess?
Just to let you know though, "NM" is a valid state abbreviation.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
